Privacy notice

DMV Shia Sports is a volunteer-run community sports organization serving the Shia community of Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia. For anything on this page, email info@dmvshiasports.org and a volunteer will answer.

• Account details: your name, email address and, if you add them, your phone number, date of birth, jersey size and an emergency contact. Your password is held by our sign-in provider, not by us.
• Event registrations: which event you signed up for, your team or free-agent choice, the fee owed, and any note a commissioner adds.
• Payments: that a payment was made, how much, by which method, and a reference. Venmo and cash payments happen outside this app — we never see your card, bank or Venmo login.
• Playing record: scores, statistics, standings and volunteer shifts.
• Photos: pictures taken at our events, which may show players and spectators.
• Newsletter: your email address, the date you subscribed, and the exact wording you agreed to.

To run events: to register you, put you on a roster, keep score, collect fees, staff volunteer shifts, and tell you about the event you signed up for. The emergency contact exists for injuries on game day. We use your email for the newsletter only if you asked us to.

We do not sell your information, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not use it to build a profile of you.

Only the companies that run the service for us, and only so it works:

• Supabase — the database, sign-in and photo storage, hosted in Canada.
• Vercel — hosting for the website and app, hosted in the United States.
• Resend — delivers account emails such as sign-in confirmations and password resets.
• Microsoft 365 — the mailbox behind our email address.
• Kit — sends the newsletter to people who asked for it, and handles unsubscribes.

Volunteers with an administrative role in the app can see registrations, payments and contact details for the events they run. We may share information if the law requires it.

We run programmes for young people. A parent or guardian should create the account and register a child, and the registration details we hold about a child are the ones a parent gives us.

The newsletter is for people aged 13 or over. If you believe a child under 13 has given us their details, email info@dmvshiasports.org and we will delete them.

We publish photos from our events on this site, in the app, and on Instagram. If you or your child appear in a photo and you want it taken down, email info@dmvshiasports.org and we will remove it — no reason needed.

• Newsletter: every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and you can turn it off under “Me” in the app at any time. Unsubscribing does not stop emails about an event you registered for.
• Your details: sign in and update your profile, or email us to ask for a copy of what we hold, to correct it, or to have your account and its data deleted.

Deleting your account removes your profile and contact details. Scores and results of games already played stay, because they are part of the event’s record.

Registration and payment records are kept while the organization needs them for its own accounts. Newsletter records are kept until you unsubscribe, and the fact that you unsubscribed is kept so we don’t email you again by mistake.

The app sets one cookie, which keeps you signed in. There is no advertising, and no analytics or tracking cookies on this site.

Access is limited to volunteers who need it for the role they hold, connections are encrypted, and passwords are stored by our sign-in provider in hashed form. No service can promise perfect security, but we keep what we collect to what we actually use.

If this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it. Questions, requests and complaints all go to info@dmvshiasports.org.
